  When Times Weekend recently joined forces with Horrible Histories to produce a special fact-packed pull-out on the Second World War, we asked young readers to enter a competition to create their own horrible and historic newspaper front pages.

  Entries could be from any historical period but had to include classic newspaper features including their newspaper name, a bold headline and a big picture or cartoon. More than 100 children, aged from 7 to 16, sent in entries to the challenge, sharing their brilliantly lively and clever bits of work. “The standard of entries was exceptionally high and we were blown away by the creativity, wit and sheer horribleness of these stories,” said Lesley Thomas, Weekend editor.
