[natural mascara]Do eyelash curlers really ruin your natural lashes? A viral video has claimed that our curlers are c

A lash technician has gone viral on TikTok for suggesting that eyelash curlers are wrecking our natural lashes.

Ipek Ozcan, AKA @ipsbeauty who runs IPS Salon in London, posted a video of a client’s lashes, some of which appeared to be blunt and cut short, which was apparently down to their use of eyelash curlers.

The text on the video read, “So today while I was cleansing my client’s lashes, I noticed so many natural lashes that looked like they had been cut, they looked blunt.

”Do you know why they looked this way? It’s because she uses eyelash curlers! We do not recommend anyone to use eyelash curlers on natural lashes.

”They’re a quick fix for getting lifted lashes but they are so damaging and literally cut your natural lashes!”

GLAMOUR spoke to Laura Carroll, Founder of Laura Carroll Make Up Artistry, to find out if eyelash curlers are really to blame for the state of the lashes in this TikTok.

According to Laura, “Not when used properly.” She recommends looking for curlers with a soft padding at the base to cushion the lashes, adding that, “Warming the eyelash curlers in your hands before you use them will be softer on the lashes. Going straight in with cold unused curlers can be more harsh (encouraging breakage) and you’ll also get a better result if they are warm.”

Ensure when you curl your lashes you tilt your head back slightly (this will stop you catching the skin on your eyelid).

Look half way down and wiggle your lashes in the right position and gently press down.

Slowly get closer to the root of your lashes, once you see most of the lash length on the curler use regular pressing motions rather than holding down for a long period of time.

Once lifted, use your mascara at the root first then build up to the end of your lashes (the less mascara at the end of your lashes the better to keep a lighter weight lash for the curl to hold).

If you go back after the mascara has dried slightly to do a subtle re-curl, ensure this is gentle to create a naturally lifted look.

Laura explains that it’s crucial to treat our lashes to some extra nourishment, pointing out, “You wouldn’t keep styling your hair without protecting it… Same goes for your eyelashes!

”Natural products like coconut or caster oil are firm favourites. Root serums like revitalash are great to keep your eyelashes in for longer resulting in longer lashes.”

She also recommends regularly cleaning your lash curlers after use, especially if you use them over mascara.

GLAMOUR just so happened to report on another TikTok, which shows all the various beauty hacks you can use your eyelash curlers for (including winged eyeliner and a cut crease) that don’t even involve your lovely lashes.
