[long lasting perfume]The Long-Lasting Fragrance That Turned Our Editor Into a ‘Perfume Person’

Most of us don’t think much about our perfumes beyond the fact that they make us smell good. But by the time our signature scents reach our pressure points, they’ve gone through a seriously sciencey formulation process that would give your high-school AP chem knowledge a run for its money. In the latest episode of What the Wellness, Ella Dove, Well+Good’s director of creative development, gets the inside scoop on exactly how it’s done.

In the video, Dove heads behind the scenes at the Dedcool factory in Los Angeles, where she learns about what goes into making a fragrance. The brand, which is responsible for some of our editors’ favorite scents (and even converted one beauty editor into a “fragrance person” after a single sniff), prides itself on being sustainable and non-toxic—which means that its formulation process is totally unique.

”We don’t use any water… and it doesn’t dilute the fragrance, which creates a longer-lasting wear while also being resourceful and sustainable,” says the brand’s founder, Carina Chaz. “We create fragrance based on essential oils, but you can’t really get complex fragrances from essential oils, so we created a nature-identical fragrance.” This, she explains, happens by extracting plant hormones, which are then used to develop scents like vegan musk.

There’s a lot that goes into creating the scents we’re spritzing ourselves with on a daily basis, and it’s just as much a science as it is an art. To see how it happens, check out the video above, then treat yourself to an entirely new signature scent from Dedcool.
