After another day of declining Covid case rates in the UK, Ranvir Singh was joined by Dr Hilary Jones on Monday’s Lorraine to discuss what the future may hold. However, while the falling numbers were reason to celebrate in Ranvir’s eye, Dr Hilary remained cautious, telling the Good Morning Britain star and ITV viewers that people still need to be careful and that he’ll still “give it a week or two” before feeling optimistic about the figures.

However, after he weighed in with his thoughts on the new figures, Ranvir was keen to provide a positive outlook rather than doom and gloom.

After reflecting on the new case figures, Dr Hilary had warned viewers we need to see the repercussions of thousands still testing positive.

Offering clarification, Ranvir weighed in: “Is what you’re saying is, look, we don’t know what this last week of lots of activity happening will show up,

“But we hope that being double-jabbed and all of that is the key to it?”

Dr Hilary replied: “Yes, we have so many people still to be vaccinated, I mean we’ve vaccinated 70 percent of the adult population which is great news.

“But there are still millions of people who haven’t been vaccinated or had one vaccine, so they’re still vulnerable.

“And we are seeing increasing numbers of young people being hospitalised and some of them ending up on ICU (wards).

“So we still have to be cautious, it’d be too early to throw caution to the wind completely.”

The pair then discussed the backlog then NHS now faces with other diseases as well as the possibility of new variants arising among the unvaccinated.

However, as the discussion drew to a close, Ranvir stopped Dr Hilary in his tracks to say: “But Dr Hilary, to be positive, the infections are going down, and that’s what we want to hear.

“There’s a lot to be grateful for on a Monday morning,” she added.

After Ranvir had countered Dr Hilary’s stance, many ITV viewers took to social media to applaud the presenter.

A second concurred: “l could give Ranvir a high five for putting that Dr Hillary Jones in he place on the programme today when cases of coronavirus have fallen he was still full of the usual doom.

“l was shouting at the television for him to shut up Ranvir said we had a lot to be thankful for!”

“Even when infection rates are going down and 2/3rds of population vaxed he still finds it hard to say anything positive.” (sic)

Ranvir soon moved on with the show to speak with singer Anne-Marie as well as celebrate Team GB’s performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
